Washington Post Blasts ‘Moral Panic’ Over Rampant Shoplifting
The Washington Post put on a brilliant display of its hypocrisy and contempt for the nation in a Friday piece. Features reporter Maura Judkis addressed the flurry of retail store closures in Democratic cities with a telling diatribe.
The journalist and her outlet showed their true colors with this statement. “America is a sticky-fingered nation built on stolen land, and its current moral panic is about shoplifting.”
A better summary of leftist extremism may not have been written. The U.S. in their eyes is an illegitimate country and therefore its laws and moral practices may be summarily ignored by those whose criminal behavior results in chaos.
It is hardly a secret that retail pharmacy chains and many other business establishments have had enough of liberal strongholds.
Even locking nearly every product available on shelves behind plexiglass has not deterred hordes of teenagers from descending onto these stores. Employees and customers are no longer safe, and the costs outweigh the benefits of staying in certain neighborhoods.
Ever wonder why so few people talk about the rampant theft that has become commonplace in cities like NY & San Francisco where you cannot be held liable for stealing anything under $950? Does it make sense why companies like CVS are closing their stores & there’s no outcry? They…

But to Judkis and the Post, the public reaction is merely part of the larger culture war. An empty Washington D.C. CVS location became “a stand-in for all that is wrong with American cities — and liberals (and liberal democracy?) in 2024.”
The clear insinuation is that those horrified by rampant crime are opposed to democracy and freedom.
But the CVS in the nation’s capital is indeed symptomatic of a much larger societal issue. Community advocates complain that there are health risks involved in closing pharmacies, but what alternatives do these beleaguered companies have?
Do they maintain unprofitable operations simply to appease Democrats?
Then there’s the economic reality that the industry is largely moving further from brick-and-mortar operations. Mail-order health insurance providers and online pharmacies are steadily whittling away at the traditional corner pharmacy.
But for the Post, rampant crime and industry shifts are not the reasons for the closures. Instead it is a “moral panic” that consumes conservatives when they encounter criminals running amok in Democratic cities.
Apparently, it is the duty of retail companies and all Americans to simply ignore the lawlessness that plagues these areas. It’s just the culture wars, nothing to see here.
