USAID Name Erased From Headquarters As Global Influence Comes Under Fire

The words “U.S. Agency for International Development” have been removed from the agency’s headquarters in Washington, a clear sign that its future under President Donald Trump is in doubt. This comes after an audit uncovered billions of taxpayer dollars being used to fund media control, foreign activism and ideological projects worldwide.

One of the audit’s biggest findings was USAID’s influence over Ukraine’s media. Reports show that nine out of ten media outlets in Ukraine relied on foreign donors, with USAID acting as the main source of funding. With the agency’s budget now frozen, questions have been raised about whether outside interests could step in to shape Ukraine’s media landscape.

Beyond media funding, USAID allocated taxpayer money to controversial programs. Millions were spent on LGBT lobbying in Serbia and a transgender opera in Colombia. Other funding was directed toward a Sesame Street program in Iraq, a transgender comic book in Peru and gender-related media training in Sri Lanka.

Black Lives Matter was also a recipient of USAID-backed funding. The Soros-funded Tides Center received a $24.7 million grant, later directing over $12.6 million to Black Lives Matter-related organizations. This financial backing was provided at the same time the movement was leading protests that resulted in widespread destruction across the U.S. in 2020.

In Europe, USAID’s actions have drawn attention. A German lawmaker in the European Parliament has called for an investigation into the agency’s possible election influence across multiple EU countries. Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also pledged to expose all U.S. funding of activist groups and media organizations operating in his country.

The agency has also been linked to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. Reports indicate that a CIA whistleblower cited sources funded by USAID and the State Department in the complaint that triggered the proceedings. Now, with the agency’s name erased from its headquarters, USAID’s future remains in question as the Trump administration moves forward with efforts to eliminate it.
