Trump Blocks Security Access For Lawyers At Perkins Coie Over 2016 Election Role

President Donald Trump has taken steps to revoke security clearances from attorneys affiliated with Perkins Coie LLP, a law firm heavily involved in the Democratic Party’s legal battles. The executive order, issued this week, also directs federal agencies to halt contracts with the firm and reassess its access to classified material.

Perkins Coie was instrumental in the efforts of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, including its funding of the controversial Steele dossier. That document, later debunked, played a central role in obtaining surveillance warrants against a former Trump campaign adviser. Investigations have since revealed that the dossier was used to fuel unfounded allegations of Trump’s ties to Russia.

The order states that the firm has engaged in activities that “undermined democratic elections” and accuses it of helping to facilitate efforts to overturn voter ID laws through legal challenges funded by left-wing donors. Trump also cited its history of implementing hiring practices that favored specific racial groups, an approach his administration has pledged to eliminate from government-funded organizations.

Federal agencies have been instructed to immediately suspend any active clearances held by the firm’s employees while a full review is conducted. The White House has emphasized that individuals or organizations involved in past abuses of power should not have privileged access to sensitive national security information.

The directive also affects government contracts, requiring agencies to disclose any business relationships with Perkins Coie and terminate them where possible. The administration has framed this as part of a broader effort to prevent taxpayer money from supporting firms involved in partisan legal campaigns.

The executive order follows Trump’s previous decisions to strip clearances from multiple intelligence officials who signed a misleading letter about Hunter Biden’s laptop. Meanwhile, the FBI’s New York office recently saw a leadership shake-up, with James Dennehy forced to step down amid ongoing restructuring efforts.
