The plan by Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams to distribute debit cards worth up to $10,000 to illegal migrants is under siege. Even his party colleagues on the city council are up in arms over the shocking proposal.

Part of their ire is directed at the no-bid deal that would enable the measure to take effect. 

The scheme would hand over debit cards to illegal migrants currently housed for free in the city’s overrun shelter system. This is partly in response to reports that the illegals rejected food provided by city taxpayers, leading to extensive waste.

Adams touted the cards as saving the city millions. He put the price tag at $53 million for the program, which would provide migrants $35 per day or $1,000 per month to prepare their own food.

The no-bid contract reportedly went to Mobility Capital Finance. Mayor Adams described the company as “minority owned,” as if this justified not opening up a lucrative city contract for bidding.

Democratic city councilmember Gale Brewer sharply criticized Adams for the move. “I think you should bid it out to see who would do the best job at the best cost for taxpayers.” 

She called for an investigation into the program, which is set to be launched with 500 illegal migrant families as a test case. Brewer said the scheme is short on details.

Calling for greater controls, the council member declared, “I don’t know exactly how it’s going to work. I do see from the press release it will be for diapers and baby products and food, but you have to be careful that that’s what it’s actually going to be for.”

As for the hand-selected company, Adams defended his choice on the grounds of its ownership. 

The Democrat explained, “WMBs — you know, women- and minority-owned businesses — have been historically locked out…So, I’m disrupting what people traditionally would like for us to do.”

Adams claimed to not have a personal relationship with the management of Mobility Capital Finance. As justification, he told reporters, “We don’t hang out in the Hamptons together or go to baseball games together.”

But as he prepares to hand out tens of millions to illegals, Adams would do well to look at the stark poverty numbers plaguing his city. According to Breitbart News, a shocking 56% of New Yorkers exist near the poverty line.

From 2021 to 2022, that number skyrocketed by 500,000. But somehow the Big Apple has enough resources to dole out debit cards to tens of thousands of illegals.
