Musk Slams Judge For Blocking DOGE, Calls For Immediate Impeachment
Elon Musk is demanding the removal of U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer after the judge blocked his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from investigating Treasury Department payments. Musk, who has been working alongside President Donald Trump to expose government waste, accused the judge of protecting corruption rather than allowing transparency.
Engelmayer, an Obama appointee, issued an emergency order on Saturday halting DOGE’s access to Treasury data following a lawsuit from New York Attorney General Letitia James and 18 other Democrat attorneys general. They claimed the Treasury Department gave Musk’s team unauthorized access to sensitive financial records.
Musk wasted no time responding, posting on X: “A corrupt judge protecting corruption. He needs to be impeached NOW!” He also called the ruling “absolutely insane,” questioning how waste and fraud could be stopped without examining where taxpayer money was going.
The judge’s order not only blocked access but also required that all Treasury data obtained since Trump took office be destroyed. The decision comes amid revelations that $100 billion in annual entitlement payments are being distributed without proper documentation, with Treasury officials estimating half of those payments—$50 billion per year—are fraudulent.
Republican lawmakers have backed Musk’s call for accountability. Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) described the situation as a “judicial coup,” while Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) vowed to introduce legislation to ensure DOGE maintains oversight of Treasury payments.
The court battle over DOGE’s role in government spending investigations is expected to continue, with a hearing scheduled for February 20 to determine whether the access ban will remain in place.
