GOP Task Force Launches Investigation Into Federal Secrets After Trump’s Declassification Order
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has been appointed to lead a congressional task force investigating classified government documents, ranging from the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy to Jeffrey Epstein’s client list. The effort comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the release of long-held federal secrets.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) selected Luna to chair the “Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.” The group will examine high-profile cases, including the origins of COVID-19, documents related to 9/11, and classified material on UFOs and unidentified submerged objects.
Trump’s executive order requires intelligence officials to present a plan for the full release of JFK assassination files within 15 days. He also mandated that records on RFK’s assassination and Martin Luther King Jr.’s killing be reviewed for release within 45 days. FBI records related to the JFK assassination alone total roughly 14,000 pages, with additional classified material still pending declassification.
Luna stated that the task force aims to “deliver truth to the American people” and address long-standing concerns over government transparency. “We have spent years seeking information on the assassinations of President Kennedy, Senator Kennedy, Reverend King, and other government secrets without success,” she said.
In addition to reviewing classified assassination files, the task force will examine Epstein’s client list. Luna has indicated that letters have already been sent to relevant agencies to begin the process of obtaining and reviewing these documents.
The committee is expected to call witnesses, including medical professionals involved in Kennedy’s autopsy and individuals who participated in previous assassination investigations. The task force will operate under the House Oversight Committee as it works to compile and release government records.
