Tim Scott Foresees Debate Moderators Running ‘Interference’ For Biden In Presidential Debates
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) anticipates that moderators of the upcoming presidential debates will play “interference” for President Joe Biden to help him win his campaign for reelection in November.
Scott’s remarks follow just days after both Biden and former President Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee, agreed to participate in two debates. The first debate is slated for June.
In an interview on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo, Scott asserted that Biden is “so afraid of debating” Trump.
“He thinks he wants a one-on-one with President Donald Trump because the moderators will run interference for Joe Biden,” Scott said. The South Carolina senator criticized the debate rules Biden is “dictating,” calling them “terrible.”
However, Scott noted that Trump is willing to debate “anywhere, anytime, anyplace” because he believes he can “expose the lies of Joe Biden” on issues ranging from inflation to the border and crime.
Scott has also suggested that both Biden and Trump undergo drug tests before the debates, questioning why they shouldn’t. He pointed to Biden’s State of the Union speech earlier this year, claiming there was “something going on” with the president’s “surreal” performance.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., has echoed Scott’s call for drug tests, citing Biden’s ability to “launch nukes” as a reason for doing so. Trump has also joked that Biden would be “jacked up” before the debates and should take a drug test.
