Kellyanne Conway Submits To Early Voting Despite Previous Opposition

Former White House adviser Kellyanne Conway has submitted to the idea of early voting despite her previous stance against it. In an appearance on “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday Conway acknowledged that the GOP could “die politically” by opposing early voting.

“So I don’t like early voting but if this is the new normal you adapt or you die politically” Conway said.

Conway’s change in stance comes ahead of her former boss President Donald Trump’s election in November. Trump who had also previously opposed mail-in ballots has recently changed his tune and encouraged Republicans to utilize various voting options including absentee and early voting.

In the 2020 election about a third of Trump voters used either an absentee or mail-in ballot while another 30% voted in person but early. Trump’s opponent President Joe Biden secured 58% of his votes through absentee and mail-in ballots.

Conway herself voted by absentee ballot in New Jersey in 2018 despite her vocal opposition to the mail-in variety at the time.

The former White House adviser expressed hope that President Trump and his wife Melania would vote early in Florida on the first day they are eligible stating that when “the lion roars the others will follow.” She believes that Trump’s actions will influence his supporters to follow suit.

Since 2020 many Republicans have voiced concerns over the security of mail-in voting but are now coming around to understanding the popularity of the method. The majority of mail-in voters 55% come from those over the age of 65.
