Caitlin Clark Remains Positive Despite Olympic Team Snub
Caitlin Clark, the WNBA rookie sensation, has taken her exclusion from the U.S. women’s Olympic basketball team in stride, expressing support for the selected players and viewing the decision as motivation to improve her game.
Reports of the Team U.S.A. roster first emerged Saturday, with many people, including Los Angeles Times writer Bill Plaschke, expressing shock at Clark’s absence and criticizing the selection team. However, Clark herself has remained positive, focusing on her support for the chosen players and her own future goals.
“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,” Clark said in a video posted to X. “I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could’ve gone either way, me being on the team or me not being on the team. So, I’m excited for them, gonna be rooting them on to win gold.”
Clark, who grew up watching the Olympics, sees this as an opportunity to work harder and set her sights on the next Olympic cycle. “Honestly, no disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work for,” she said, adding that it’s a dream she hopes to fulfill one day.
The young star also appreciated the respectful manner in which she was informed of the decision, with the selection committee calling her and other players in the Olympic pool before the roster was made public.
