President Joe Biden apparently determined that appealing to younger voters was more important than national security. His reelection campaign joined the Communist Chinese app TikTok despite his signing federal legislation in 2022 banning the platform on most federal devices.

The new account was revealed on Super Bowl Sunday. This surprise came just days after a bipartisan group of lawmakers called on the White House to blacklist ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company.

It also followed by just two weeks Biden’s own FBI Director, Christopher Wray, telling Congress that the app allows Beijing access to data “on millions of users.”

None of this mattered, of course, when reelection was at stake. 

On Sunday, the Biden camp posted on X, formerly Twitter, “Hey by the way, we just joined TikTok.”

The posting linked a video of the elderly president in a Super Bowl-related video along with the caption, “lol, hey guys.” This despite Biden’s ratifying a bill just over a year ago prohibiting millions of federal employees from using the app.

One prominent conservative was none too pleased with the president’s latest flip flop. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) responded on X by writing, “Biden campaign bragging about using a Chinese spy app even though Biden signed a law banning it on all federal devices.” 

The senator previously told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that the app should be banned entirely. “It tracks everything you do on your phone. It tracks everywhere you go, every text message you send.”

And, Hawley added, the Chinese Communist Party has access to all of your data.

Early last year, the Biden White House set a 30-day deadline for TikTok to be purged from all government-issued devices. Not far enough, charged several Republicans, who demanded the social media platform’s outright ban.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) accused ByteDance’s CEO of “lying” about the platform’s safety for personal use. 

He jumped into the fray on Monday after the Biden camp embraced the app. Cotton posted, “Just like TikTok, Temu or any Chinese tech company must allow the Communist Party unfettered access to its data. This should be a non-starter for doing business in the United States.
