Trump Moves Forward With Bold Plan To Create External Revenue Service
President-elect Donald Trump is wasting no time in delivering on his promise to rebuild America’s economy. On Tuesday, Trump announced the creation of the External Revenue Service (ERS), a new agency focused on collecting revenue from foreign sources rather than taxing hardworking Americans.
“For far too long, we have relied on taxing our Great People using the Internal Revenue Service (IRS),” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “It is time for that to change.” The ERS, launching on January 20, will focus on collecting tariffs, duties and other revenue from foreign nations profiting from trade with the United States.
Trump’s plan signals a major shift in how America handles its revenue. By shifting the financial burden away from citizens and onto foreign countries that benefit from trade with the US, Trump aims to level the playing field. Countries that have long taken advantage of weak trade deals will finally be held accountable and pay their fair share.
The incoming president has already proposed steep tariffs on foreign goods. This includes a 10% to 20% tariff on general imports and up to 60% on Chinese products. Trump has also warned Mexico and Canada that they could face a 25% tariff if they fail to cooperate with US immigration policies.
Currently, the responsibility for collecting tariffs falls under US Customs and Border Protection. However, the creation of the ERS would streamline this process, focusing entirely on securing revenue from foreign sources. Trump ally Steve Bannon has suggested placing the ERS under the Treasury Department to ease the burden on the IRS.
Economist EJ Antoni praised the move, calling it a step in the right direction. “Anything that gets us away from income taxes and towards tariffs is a great idea,” Antoni said. The ERS could transform how the government collects revenue while reducing the tax burden on everyday Americans.
Trump’s decisive action reflects his commitment to rebuilding the economy and prioritizing American workers. By holding foreign countries accountable, Trump is taking bold steps to make America stronger and more self-reliant.
