Texas Republicans Probe Reports Of Democrats Registering Noncitizens To Vote Outside DMV Offices
Texas GOP officials have launched an investigation into alarming reports that Democrats may be registering noncitizens to vote outside Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offices.
The controversy erupted after Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo shared a post on social media alleging that registration tables were set up outside DMVs in Weatherford and Fort Worth, where immigrants were reportedly being signed up without proper verification of citizenship status.
Brady Gray, chairman of the Parker County GOP, responded quickly, expressing deep concern and promising a full investigation. Gray said he has been flooded with inquiries from local residents worried about the potential for illegal voting.
“We cannot ignore these reports—Democrats are actively working to undermine our elections,” Gray warned. Tarrant County GOP Chairman Bo French echoed Gray’s concerns, calling the situation “deeply troubling” and urging state officials to act swiftly.
Attorney General Ken Paxton, who shared Bartiromo’s post on social media, has signaled that his office is also closely monitoring the situation. Paxton later issued a statement pledging to use the full force of his office to investigate and prosecute any illegal activity. “Anyone registering noncitizens or participating in illegal voting schemes will face serious legal consequences,” Paxton warned.
The reports come amid growing concerns that Democrat-led voter registration drives could be targeting noncitizens, allowing them to vote in upcoming elections.
Republicans have long warned that lax voter registration practices could lead to fraud, and this latest controversy is sure to fuel the debate over election integrity as the 2024 election approaches.
