Rep. Luna Warns Of Corporate Push To Derail RFK Jr.’s HHS Confirmation
Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is raising concerns about corporate influence threatening to derail Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination as Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary under President Donald Trump.
Kennedy, who is set to face Senate hearings next week, is encountering resistance from GOP senators hesitant to support his confirmation. Luna, a vocal supporter of Kennedy and a leader in the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative, believes major corporations benefiting from widespread chronic health conditions are pressuring lawmakers to oppose his nomination.
Big Pharma is now trying to stop RFK Jr. and MAHA from inside both parties.

“I do believe that there are nefarious actors within the agriculture and food industries that are going to start putting financial top-down pressure on some of these senators in an effort to block his confirmation because they’re making a lot of money on making people sick,” Luna told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

She warned that senators who oppose Kennedy risk being seen as prioritizing corporate interests over public health. Luna argues that rejecting Kennedy’s nomination would go against Trump’s commitment to the MAHA agenda, which aims to promote healthier food choices and combat harmful additives in the food supply.

Kennedy is expected to appear before the Senate committees on Wednesday and Thursday. The finance committee, which will vote on whether to advance his nomination to the Senate floor, has a slim Republican majority, making it possible for a single GOP senator to block his confirmation if all Democrats oppose him.

Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Todd Young (R-IN), and Thom Tillis (R-NC), who sit on the finance committee, have yet to take firm positions on Kennedy’s nomination. Young’s staff described his meeting with Kennedy as “very positive,” while Tillis has indicated he will support any Trump nominee that passes committee. Cassidy, however, has expressed skepticism over Kennedy’s stance on vaccines.

Senate Republicans, including Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and Mitch McConnell (R-KY), known for occasionally breaking with Trump, could also prove to be obstacles. A small group of GOP senators siding with Democrats could be enough to block Kennedy’s appointment.
Concerns over Kennedy’s past remarks on vaccines and his potential impact on agricultural policies have contributed to hesitancy within the party. His long-standing criticism of vaccines, including his controversial positions on their links to autism and other health concerns, remains a sticking point for several senators. Some Republicans have also voiced worries about his regulatory approach to farming and food production.
Despite the challenges, Luna remains optimistic that Kennedy’s policies align with growing public support for stricter food regulations. She noted that lawmakers are becoming increasingly aware of harmful additives in food, particularly those affecting children and families. Luna has previously introduced bills aimed at banning artificial dyes and high-fructose corn syrup, though they failed to advance in committee.
With the Biden administration’s recent ban on Red Dye 3 for cosmetic use, Luna sees momentum building for further restrictions on harmful food ingredients. She is considering introducing new legislation that would require warning labels on processed foods containing certain additives, similar to those seen on cigarette packaging.
Luna emphasized that Kennedy’s confirmation is a crucial step in addressing the nation’s health crisis and promised to continue pushing MAHA priorities in Congress.
