Rep. Hageman Slams Education Department For Massive Spending Waste

Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) is taking aim at the Department of Education’s financial practices, calling out what she describes as a massive scheme of waste and political favoritism. Speaking on Winston Marshall’s podcast, she revealed how billions of taxpayer dollars are being funneled into bureaucratic layers instead of directly funding education.

“The Federal Department of Education has a budget of about $280 billion a year. Less than 25% of that actually goes to educating our students,” Hageman said. “So where does the other $220 billion go? It goes to a bureaucracy.”

She detailed how money is funneled through layers of consultants, with some of those funds later making their way back into Democrat political campaigns. She described the system as a form of “money laundering” that exists across numerous federal agencies.

Hageman highlighted the role of the Department of Government Oversight and Efficiency (DOGE) in uncovering these financial abuses. Though DOGE does not have the authority to make budget cuts, she believes its reports can provide Congress with the necessary data to slash unnecessary programs.

“What I want DOGE to do is go through every agency, identify every single program that we should not be funding, put a number to it,” she said. “Then we slap a preamble on the front of that report and say that every single agency is having their budget cut by X amount, as shown in the attached report.”

Her comments come as Republicans continue pushing for greater government accountability. Hageman, who replaced Liz Cheney, has been a strong advocate for cutting wasteful spending and ensuring tax dollars are used appropriately.

The issue of government waste has been a focal point for conservatives, with calls growing louder for Congress to take action. Hageman’s statements are likely to add to the pressure on lawmakers to conduct deeper investigations into federal spending.

As more scrutiny is placed on how taxpayer dollars are allocated, Hageman’s remarks could fuel further debate over the role of bureaucratic spending and how Washington handles public funds.
