Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued a grave warning about the growing likelihood of a global conflict, describing the situation as “serious and real.” Speaking in light of recent escalations in the Ukraine war, Tusk highlighted the dire consequences of continued tensions between NATO allies and Russia, fueled by decisions allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russian territory.

“The war in the east is entering a decisive phase; we feel that the unknown is approaching,” Tusk stated. “The conflict is taking on dramatic proportions. The last few dozen hours have shown that the threat is serious and real when it comes to global conflict.”

Tusk’s remarks follow recent developments in the war, including President Joe Biden’s reversal on supplying ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine. These missiles have been used in strikes deep inside Russia, prompting a retaliatory hypersonic missile attack by Moscow on Dnipro. NATO and Ukraine have since scheduled emergency talks to address the rapidly intensifying situation.

Tusk has long cautioned about Europe’s lack of preparation for a potential large-scale war. Earlier this year, he warned that “Europe is in a prewar era,” urging leaders to take the threat of escalation seriously. “Literally any scenario is possible,” Tusk said. “We are living in the most critical moment since the end of the Second World War.”

The escalation has raised alarm across the continent, with fears that continued provocations — such as NATO countries enabling Ukraine to conduct long-range strikes — could push Russia into more aggressive actions. Russian President Vladimir Putin has framed his missile attacks as defensive responses to what he describes as NATO-backed incursions into Russian territory.

Tusk’s stark warning comes as Europe faces its greatest security challenge in decades. His remarks underscore the need for immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation, with the potential for catastrophic consequences if tensions continue to rise unchecked.
