Marjorie Taylor Greene Blasts Cuomo, Calls Him ‘Dumbest Tool Of The Chinese Government’ Over Chinese Spying And Nursing Home Scandal
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took aim at former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday, accusing him of incompetence during the COVID-19 pandemic while allowing a Chinese spy to work in his administration. Greene’s sharp remarks came as Cuomo testified before the House Oversight Committee’s Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic about his handling of nursing home deaths.
Cuomo has faced ongoing criticism for his administration’s decision in March 2020 to force nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients, a directive many argue contributed to thousands of deaths. During his testimony, Greene pointed to the arrest of former Cuomo aide Linda Sun, who has been accused of acting as a spy for the Chinese government while serving in his administration.
“So, Mr. Cuomo, you were thanking China while you had a woman named Linda Sun working for you who has now been identified as a Chinese spy,” Greene said. She did not hold back, asking Cuomo whether he was “the dumbest tool of the Chinese government” or if he knowingly allowed a foreign agent to infiltrate his office.
Sun and her husband were arrested earlier this month, facing charges of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering. Greene highlighted Sun’s role as evidence of the Chinese Communist Party’s efforts to infiltrate American political institutions, accusing Cuomo of either being complicit or negligent in allowing her access.
Cuomo, in his defense, downplayed Sun’s role in his administration, describing her as a “junior member” and claiming he wouldn’t recognize her. However, he acknowledged the serious threat posed by foreign operatives and called for better cooperation between state and federal authorities to prevent infiltration.
Greene also reminded the committee of the sexual misconduct allegations against Cuomo, who has been accused by 13 women of inappropriate behavior during his time as governor. She suggested the Democratic Department of Justice helped Cuomo avoid significant legal consequences, adding to her overall critique of his leadership.
