Kamala Harris Dodges Fox Debate, Pushes For Second Debate With CNN
Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her acceptance of a second debate invitation with President Donald Trump, which is set to be hosted by CNN if confirmed. Despite Harris’ enthusiasm, Trump has shown little interest in participating in another debate, citing his belief that his performance in the first debate, hosted by ABC News earlier this month, was more than sufficient to secure a win.
The announcement was first reported by CNN’s Caitlin Collins, with Harris quickly confirming the news in a social media post, stating that she is “gladly” accepting the debate invitation. The debate is tentatively scheduled for October 23, though Trump’s participation remains uncertain.
Trump’s reluctance to agree to another debate stems, in part, from Harris’ decision to skip a Fox News-hosted debate on September 10. Trump’s campaign has pointed out that they agreed to face Harris on a left-leaning network and argue that she should have reciprocated by attending the Fox debate. Harris’ absence has become a point of contention, with Trump suggesting that her refusal to debate on Fox News indicates her unwillingness to engage with all audiences.
Trump has made it clear that he believes the first debate will likely be the only one before Election Day. “Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate,” Trump said on Truth Social. He also emphasized his unwillingness to participate in any future debates, stating, “THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”
Despite his firm stance, Trump has left the door slightly open, telling reporters in Philadelphia last week that he might consider another debate if he’s in the “right mood.” However, as of now, the Trump campaign has not formally agreed to the October 23 event, leaving the possibility of a second showdown in limbo.
