Kamala Harris Campaign Pushes For Seated Debate With Notes As Trump Team Calls Out ‘Games’

Kamala Harris’s campaign is reportedly pushing for significant changes to the rules of the upcoming September 10 presidential debate on ABC, including allowing candidates to be seated and use notes during the event. According to Politico, the Trump campaign has expressed frustration over the proposed changes, arguing that Harris’s team had already agreed to the original debate rules, which mirror those of the June 27 CNN debate.

Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, was vocal in his criticism, stating, “Enough with the games. We accepted the ABC debate under the exact same terms as the CNN debate. The Harris camp, after having already agreed to the CNN rules, asked for a seated debate, with notes, and opening statements. We said no changes to the agreed upon rules.”

Miller further questioned Harris’s preparedness, suggesting that her request for notes is a sign of weakness. “If Kamala Harris isn’t smart enough to repeat the messaging points her handlers want her to memorize, that’s their problem,” he said.

The Harris campaign has also reportedly requested “hot mics” to catch Trump in unguarded moments, a strategy her team believes could be beneficial. However, Miller noted that Trump has consistently agreed to all debate terms, including those initially set by Joe Biden before he was replaced by Harris as the Democratic nominee.

The back-and-forth over debate conditions underscores the growing tension between the two campaigns. While Harris’s team insists the rules should be up for discussion, Trump’s camp has remained steadfast, accusing Harris of attempting to avoid a genuine debate. As the date approaches, the dispute raises questions about whether both candidates will even take the stage under the same conditions.
