Indiana Schools Struggle With Overcrowding As Migrant Population Surges, Blame Falls On Biden-Harris
In Logansport, Indiana, a massive influx of Haitian migrants has increased the county’s population by 30%, putting overwhelming pressure on local schools. Since 2020, over 11,000 migrants have settled in the area, leading to overcrowded classrooms and frustration among parents. Many blame the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies for the surge, which they say has negatively impacted the community.
Local mother and photographer Candice Espinoza expressed her concerns to The New York Post, stating, “Our community cannot withstand this many people being here.” She pointed out how her children’s education has suffered due to the influx. Another resident, Nancy Baker, said if Vice President Kamala Harris came to her home, she would tell her to “get off my property.”
The Logansport school system has seen a dramatic rise in Haitian students, from just 14 to 207 in a year. Baker’s daughter, Cheyanne, felt ignored by teachers who focused on non-English-speaking students and eventually dropped out of school. “You can’t just focus all your resources on one group of children while the rest are left behind,” Baker said.
Cheyanne has since enrolled in an online school, but her mother remains concerned about the public school system’s ability to meet students’ needs. Espinoza echoed similar concerns, saying, “The education standards are declining because teachers have to focus on the migrant students.”
Residents like Espinoza are turning to the upcoming election for change, with many planning to vote for Donald Trump. “When Trump becomes president, things will improve for our community,” she said.
