Illegal Immigrants Self-Deporting Ahead Of Trump’s Return To Office

With President-elect Donald Trump set to return to the White House in less than two months, some illegal immigrants in Mexico are choosing to self-deport rather than face the strict immigration policies promised by the incoming administration. Mexican officials report that up to 100 individuals have requested voluntary return to their home countries, citing Trump’s plans to reinstate tough border enforcement measures.

These individuals are either covering their own travel expenses or seeking assistance from the Mexican government to facilitate their return. Many fear Trump’s pledge to crack down on illegal immigration, which includes eliminating the “CBP One” app. The app has allowed migrants to digitally apply for asylum and receive approval without appearing in court, a process that critics argue bypasses key legal checks.

President-elect Trump has also vowed to reinstate the “Remain in Mexico” policy from his first term. This policy required asylum seekers to wait in Mexico while their applications were processed, effectively curbing illegal crossings and asylum fraud.

“I cry every day and ask God to take me back,” one migrant lamented. “This is horrible.” Another expressed similar concerns: “If I don’t get the appointment, I will go back.”

Beyond addressing illegal crossings, the Trump administration plans to target the cartels responsible for facilitating human smuggling. Tom Homan, the incoming Border Czar, emphasized the administration’s resolve. “They have killed more Americans than every terrorist organization in the world. Trump is committed to calling them terrorist organizations and using the full might of the United States Special Operations to take them out,” Homan said.

As the new administration prepares to take office, the ripple effects of Trump’s policies are already being felt, with illegal immigrants reconsidering their options and some opting to leave before facing the consequences of stricter enforcement.
