EU Urges Citizens To Prepare For War As Leaders Defy Calls For Peace

European Union officials are now encouraging citizens to prepare for a possible crisis by stockpiling food, water and emergency supplies — a move that critics say highlights just how reckless and incompetent European leadership has become. Instead of working toward peace, leaders in Brussels continue to provoke Russia while ignoring repeated calls from President Donald Trump and others urging de-escalation.

On March 26, EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib announced that all residents in the 27-nation bloc should be ready to survive on their own for at least 72 hours. The list of recommended items includes water, non-perishable food, flashlights, ID documents and a shortwave radio. While the commission claims this is not meant to alarm the public, the message is clear — Europe is bracing for potential war.

France, Germany and Sweden have already taken steps in line with this new preparedness plan. France plans to issue survival manuals to households while Germany is looking to retrofit properties into nuclear fallout shelters. Sweden has updated its Cold War guidance on how to respond to a nuclear strike. These aren’t the actions of governments pursuing peace.

Some leaders are actively fueling the crisis. French President Emmanuel Macron has floated the idea of sending European troops to Ukraine. That plan has drawn sharp condemnation from Moscow, which warned that any NATO-aligned forces entering Ukraine would be viewed as a hostile provocation. Still, Macron, along with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has pushed for deeper involvement in the conflict.

Germany is also drifting away from decades of restraint. Chancellor-in-waiting Friedrich Merz is advocating for nuclear cooperation with France and the U.K., signaling a shift toward a far more aggressive defense posture. Poland is moving even faster, requiring all men to undergo military training and calling for the possible pursuit of its own nuclear weapons. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has also raised the idea of leaving treaties that ban cluster bombs and landmines.

The EU’s massive €800 billion ReArm Europe plan is adding fuel to the fire. This initiative will pump resources into missile systems, cyber warfare tools and weapons manufacturing — all while the continent’s leaders reject efforts to negotiate an end to the fighting.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that Europe must take responsibility for its security but should do so by seeking peace, not by poking a nuclear-armed bear. Russia, which holds the world’s largest stockpile of nuclear warheads, has said it will not tolerate foreign forces on Ukrainian soil.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte has warned that Russia could be capable of launching another attack in Europe by 2030, further stoking fears among leaders who refuse to back down or reconsider their strategy.
