Elderly Trump Supporter Hospitalized After Alleged Political Attack
An 80-year-old man from Hancock, Michigan, is in critical condition after an ATV driver allegedly ran him over while he was placing a President Donald Trump sign in his yard. Police believe the attack was politically driven.
On Sunday, Hancock police reported three related incidents involving the same suspect. The first two incidents were acts of vandalism on vehicles—one had its tire valves broken off, and the other had all its windows smashed out. Hancock Police Chief Tami Sleeman detailed these damages in a statement.
The third incident, which was the most serious, involved the elderly man who was putting Trump signs back up in his yard on Anthony Street. The suspect had previously pulled the signs down. Around 5:45 p.m., the ATV driver returned and allegedly ran over the man.
The victim was taken to UP Health System hospital in Portage, where he remains in critical condition with potential brain injuries. “We’re not sure what could happen. Could he die from these injuries? Possible,” Chief Sleeman said.
Police believe the suspect was targeting Trump and law enforcement supporters. After identifying a suspect, authorities found the individual dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They also discovered the ATV used in the incident and confiscated electronic devices for further investigation.
The suspect’s name has not been released. The investigation continues, but authorities have assured the public there is no ongoing threat.
