Early Voting Deficits Signal Trouble For Democrats, Says CNN Analyst
CNN political analyst and former Trump 2020 communications director Marc Lotter recently analyzed early voting figures in battleground states. According to Lotter, the numbers suggest that Democrats may struggle to maintain the lead they need, particularly in critical urban areas and among key voter groups.
“The math doesn’t work,” Lotter said, referring to early voting deficits Democrats are facing in these states. He pointed out that Democrats are down by 1.7 million votes in urban battleground areas, where they have historically relied on strong support. This gap could mean that Democrats are losing ground in areas crucial to their success.

Lotter also noted an additional shortfall among women voters. He stated that Democrats are “down 1.4 million votes in the battleground states among women voters,” a trend that raises concerns about whether the party can secure necessary support from this important demographic.
Republicans, however, are benefiting from high rural turnout. Lotter pointed out that rural voters, who tend to support the GOP, “have overperformed early by 300,000.” This boost from rural areas may give Republicans an advantage, particularly in states where every vote matters.
Lotter explained that Democrats generally need to secure a lead through early voting, while Republicans tend to perform better on Election Day itself. He stated, “Democrats have to win their races early; Republicans generally win them on Election Day,” highlighting the pressure on Democrats to win early.

With early voting numbers pointing toward Republicans, a strong Election Day turnout could help Trump secure key battleground states and possibly the presidency. High Republican turnout today could ultimately tip the balance, providing an opportunity to change the course of the country.
