Crockett Denies Musk Threat As Tesla Protest Plans Draw National Scrutiny

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is pushing back after being accused of encouraging violence against Elon Musk, following her public support for a large-scale protest movement targeting Tesla. The Texas Democrat has been at the center of a heated exchange with Attorney General Pam Bondi, who claimed Crockett made dangerous remarks about Musk.

At the center of the dispute is Crockett’s involvement in the upcoming “Tesla Takedown” — a coordinated protest campaign aimed at opposing Musk’s influence and his connection to the Trump administration. Over 500 demonstrations are scheduled nationwide for March 29, which happens to be Crockett’s birthday.

During a virtual rally supporting the movement, Crockett said, “All I want to see happen on my birthday is for Elon to be taken down.” Bondi seized on the statement, accusing Crockett of calling for harm to Musk personally. She warned that as an elected official, Crockett should “tread carefully.”

Appearing on MSNBC, Crockett responded by saying the event she promoted was strictly nonviolent and within the bounds of lawful protest. She added that she advised participants to follow local laws and protest peacefully.

Crockett also emphasized that she had never supported violence and contrasted her stance with what she described as Republican tolerance for those involved in the Jan. 6 protests at the Capitol. She accused Bondi and the Trump administration of excusing violent conduct while misrepresenting her own words.

The Tesla Takedown protests were sparked by Musk’s growing involvement in the Trump administration. Critics have targeted his leadership role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and alleged efforts to use Tesla resources for political gain.

The movement’s official website labels Musk a threat to democracy and states that the campaign is committed to peaceful assembly. It explicitly denounces violence and vandalism.

The Trump administration has treated recent attacks on Tesla dealerships as domestic terrorism and vowed severe penalties, including deportation to El Salvador for some offenders. Officials have not linked these criminal acts to the Tesla Takedown movement.

Crockett sits on the DOGE Oversight Committee and has publicly criticized the administration’s handling of corporate power.
