Christian Churches Targeted In Arson Attacks Across Multiple States
Christian churches across the United States have become the targets of devastating arson attacks, raising serious concerns among faith communities.
In Orlando, Florida, Incarnation Catholic Church faced its second suspected arson attack within 16 months. Firefighters responded to the church’s alarm early Wednesday morning. While the flames were contained, significant damage was inflicted, particularly on the altar. Parishioners are frustrated with authorities, noting that no arrests or official cause were determined after last year’s similar incident.

In Massachusetts, the historic St. Mary Church in Franklin was also targeted by arson. Flames broke out in the rear sacristy, filling the entire church with smoke. Despite firefighters’ swift action, the damage was extensive. The Franklin Fire Department, state fire marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) have launched an investigation. They are offering a $10,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest and are urging community members to provide any leads.

Meanwhile, Arizona’s St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Casa Grande was struck by a fire last Friday. Occurring as the state debates Proposition 139 — a controversial amendment that would expand abortion rights — the fire has raised suspicions among the church’s parishioners. Father Ariel Luston, who leads the parish, noted extensive damage to the sanctuary, stained glass and pews. Parishioners suspect the attack may be linked to their vocal opposition to the amendment. The ATF is investigating the fire as suspicious, though no direct connection has been confirmed.

These arson attacks have left Christian communities questioning their safety. Tommy Valentine, director of the Catholic Accountability Project with CatholicVote, emphasized the urgency of the situation, calling for increased protection for places of worship. Valentine pointed out that these incidents may be connected to political tensions, particularly over abortion measures.
As investigations continue, Christian communities across the nation are demanding justice. They are calling for authorities to treat these attacks as deliberate acts of persecution and to ensure that churches receive the protection they deserve.
