Biden White House Refuses To Acknowledge Trump’s Role In Hostage Deal
The Biden administration is drawing sharp criticism for refusing to acknowledge President-elect Donald Trump’s involvement in brokering the recent ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas. Despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanking both Biden and Trump for their roles, the White House continues to dismiss Trump’s contribution.
During a press briefing, Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich questioned White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on why the Biden administration will not give Trump credit. Jean-Pierre deflected, insisting that the deal was the product of the Biden administration’s long-term strategy and diplomatic efforts, ignoring Trump’s role in pressuring Hamas.
However, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller contradicted Jean-Pierre’s stance, admitting that Trump’s incoming team was “critical” to finalizing the agreement. Miller acknowledged that the transition team’s involvement helped push negotiations forward, something the Biden team has been hesitant to admit.
President Biden further dismissed Trump’s involvement when a reporter asked if Trump should receive credit. Biden responded mockingly, saying, “Is that a joke?” This response sharply contrasted with Netanyahu’s public gratitude toward Trump for his efforts in helping to secure the deal.
Trump celebrated the agreement on Truth Social, claiming his election victory directly pressured Hamas to negotiate. He pledged continued support for Israel and promised to prevent Gaza from becoming a terrorist safe haven again.
Critics argue that the Biden administration’s refusal to credit Trump reflects political insecurity and a desire to claim sole ownership of the deal. This unwillingness to recognize bipartisan cooperation has fueled accusations that Biden is more focused on his political legacy than national unity.
