Arson Attack On Idaho Gun Store Owned By GOP Candidate Cornel Rasor Sparks Controversy

Authorities are investigating an arson attack on the Army Surplus 1 store in Sandpoint, Idaho, owned by Republican state House candidate Cornel Rasor. The fire, set on July 4, has drawn attention from far-left extremists, including those linked to Antifa, who celebrated the incident online.

Surveillance footage released by the Sandpoint Police Department shows a person igniting the fire behind the store located at Oak Street and Fifth Avenue. The video captures the suspect stopping in the alley, starting a flame, and walking away. The fire burned for over 12 hours, leading to the building being declared unsalvageable.

Authorities, including the State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), have confirmed that the incident is being treated as arson. They are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Rasor, who has managed the store for 41 years and owned it for the past two, is a Republican candidate for the Idaho House of Representatives District 1. He is known for his conservative Christian values and previously served as a county commissioner in Bonner County. Rasor’s campaign website highlights his commitment to conservative principles and his role as a family man with three children and 16 grandchildren.

Local community leaders, including Brent Regan, chairman of the Idaho Freedom Foundation and Kootenai County Republican Central Committee, have rallied support for Rasor. Regan shared a crowdfunding link on social media, urging people to help Rasor rebuild his business. “Cornel has helped so many of us over the years. Time to return the favor,” Regan wrote.
