Allegations Of Financial Misconduct By Pennsylvania Teacher’s Union To Support Shapiro
The Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) faces accusations of laundering $1.5 million to support Gov. Josh Shapiro’s (D) 2022 campaign. The Freedom Foundation filed complaints with the FBI, IRS, and state authorities, claiming PSEA illegally funneled funds through the Democratic Governors Association (DGA).
The foundation’s Maxford Nelsen said, “PSEA’s scheme to secretly launder… appears to have violated both an array of Pennsylvania laws and the Internal Revenue Code.” According to the complaints, PSEA transferred $1.5 million to the Fund For Student Success (FSS), which then sent the same amount to the DGA. The DGA contributed $5.6 million to Shapiro’s campaign.
The foundation alleges that PSEA violated the PA Election Code and PA Public Employee Relations Act by using member dues for political contributions. Additionally, they accuse FSS of filing fraudulent tax returns and DGA of failing to disclose the funding sources.
The complaints have sparked calls for investigations by state and federal agencies. Shapiro’s office and the PSEA have yet to comment on these allegations. The issue arises as Shapiro is under consideration as a potential running mate for Vice President Kamala Harris. The Freedom Foundation’s actions underscore the need for transparency and accountability in political funding.
