1 In 10 Inmates In Texas Jail Are Migrants Wanted By ICE, Report Finds
A recent report reveals that one in 10 inmates in Texas’ Harris County Jail are illegal migrants who have detainers filed against them by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE). These detainees include individuals with charges for serious offenses such as murder and sexual assault, according to records obtained by Fox News.
In Houston’s Harris County Jail, more than 1,100 of the total 9,500 inmates are illegal migrants who have ICE detainers, meaning ICE intends to take them into custody upon their release. Notably, 43% of these migrants face charges for violent crimes, with cases ranging from capital murder to child sexual assault.
Some of these inmates include two Venezuelan nationals accused of murdering 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarayu, whose death has become a focal point in criticisms of the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies.

For Victoria Garcia, the mother of a man who was allegedly murdered by an illegal migrant from Honduras, the situation is both tragic and enraging. Garcia told Fox News, “I didn’t ask for my son to be murdered…they need to know who they’re allowing to come into our country.”
Tom Ramsey, a commissioner in Harris County, expressed frustration over the impact that illegal migration has had on local crime rates. Ramsey noted that crime remains a top concern, not just locally but across the nation. He urged elected officials to take a stronger stance on the issue, saying, “I’m committed to making sure crime and safety are priorities.”
This report shines a light on the intersection of immigration and public safety, particularly as Texas residents grow increasingly concerned about how immigration policies affect crime rates.
